What's in your bag?

What the nurses carry in their bags from house to house, treating their patients is very important.  A slip of the mind, you can forget vital pieces of healthcare delivery for your home health patient.  Therefore, its best to provide the nurses with a guide to assist them at knowing, with comfort, that they are on top of the supplies needed for basic home health nursing care.
Here is our list of supplies, feel free to use this to create your checklist for every nurse.  Remember the nurses with seniority in your home health agency...seniority does not mean that they too can forget from time to time.

  • Alcohol-based hand cleaner
  • Liquid soap and paper towels
  • Scissors
  • Forceps
  • Thermometer covers
  • Thermometers (oral and rectal)
  • Plastic tape measure
  • Stethoscope and sphygmomanometer
  • Penlight
  • Plastic aprons
  • Sterile and non-sterile gloves
  • Cotton balls
  • Tape
  • Tongue depressors
  • Gauze (2x2 and 4x4)
  • Alcohol wipes
  • Disposable airway
  • Mask/protective eye gear
  • Disinfectant spray
  • Disposable gowns
  • Lab supplies for venipuncture
  • Sharps container with labels
